Pastor Matz received his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Concordia University Wisconsin and his Master’s of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. He served as Vicar at Beautiful Savior Church in Bridgeton, Missouri, and was the Associate Pastor at Lutheran Church of St. Luke in Itasca, Illinois from 2010 until 2013.
Prior to his call to become a pastor, Matz was a computer operator/information analyst for 19 years. Additionally, he is a Stephen Minister, which required additional training in caregiving, compassion, and skillful listening, especially during times of crisis.
While at St. Luke’s, Pastor Matz started an Evangelism Program and conducted both blended and traditional services. He also worked closely with the Youth Group and has accompanied them on many mission events in and outside of the community.
“I have always looked upon the church as a vital part of any community. When the community suffers, the church too suffers. As children of God, we should imitate our Father and help those in the community whenever possible,” said Pastor Matz. “It will always be a goal of mine that the congregation be involved within the community through a wide range of services and/or programs.”
Pastor Matz is married to Kathy, who was born and raised in Milwaukee. They have two sons, Joseph and Timothy. Pastor Matz is a Packer, Badger and Brewer fan. He enjoys golfing, deer hunting and spending time with his family.
